Curious About Sizing?

Given the massive variety of clothing we carry, a standard sizing guide is incredibly helpful for customers seeking the best fit.

Please understand that surplus varies widely in fit and cut and this sizing chart is general advice rather than tailor-level fitting.

Nearly every military has different sizing charts and schemes, which is why we've taken the time to put together this brief tutorial.

Jacket & Shirt Sizing

In absence of an established military size chart, we measure each jacket or shirt from armpit to armpit to get a rough idea of how it fits. If a garment is between sizes, we mark it one size down. For example, if a shirt measures 19.75" from pit to pit, it is marked as a small rather than medium.

To measure pit to pit, close up your shirt or jacket and measure from armpit to armpit.

This is our measurement guide that we use to measure garments without an existing military size chart:

14"-15" PtP = XXS

16-17" PtP = Extra Small

18"-19" PtP = Small

20-21" PtP = Medium

22-23" PtP = Large

24-25" PtP = Extra Large

26-27" PtP = XXL

28-29" PtP = 3XL

Pant Sizing

We typically convert pants to US waist and inseam sizes. If a pair of pants is between sizes, we mark it one size down. For example, if a pair of pants measures as a 33 waist, it is marked as a 32 waist.

To take these measurements we lay a pair of pants flat on the ground. We then measure across the waist and double the measurement. For example, if a pair of pants measures 16" across the waist it will fit a US 32 waist.

To determine inseam we measure from the crotch seam to the bottom of the cuff. For example, it a pair of pants measures 30" from the crotch seam to the bottom of the cuff we will list it as a 30 inseam or 30L.

      Pretty great jacket

It's pretty expensive so I got it as a Christmas present for myself. Had to wait a month because I was overseas, so shipping was no big deal.
The jackets quality is really good and it makes a great outer layer in the cold.

      Poorly made jacket

Simply put, charging $240 for this jacket is insane and i feel ripped off. I purchased the jacket and paid for faster shipping, not only did the jacket arrive pretty late, but it was in need of repair literally right out of the bag. Immediately upon opening my package i noticed the left front pocket button had fallen off and was sitting inside the pocket, and there was a tear in the inside liner. I’ve worn the jacket twice since i got it and now the stitching keeping the zipper sewn to the jacket is coming apart at the bottom. On their Instagram, AP has defended the high price of the jacket saying that it’s expensive because of high quality materials and durability. Both of these claims seem to be false, and again, I’ve worn the thing twice. Some parts just feel cheap as well compared to any other workwear jacket- the corduroy on the collar is extremely thin and cheap and will not keep your neck very warm when flipped up, and there’s a layer of white canvas clearly showing beneath certain parts of the front pocket, which just seems like lazy construction. I realize these are somewhat minor issues but if I’m paying $240 for a jacket, I’d like to get a jacket worth $240. I do heavy work in the cold and cannot see myself using this as a daily work jacket, I could justify paying $60 for this jacket, no more. For less than half the price of this jacket you can get a new carhartt work jacket that will last much longer and keep you much warmer. This jacket is very clearly made for fashion, it is not for the working class in any way shape or form. I would exchange it for another one but they’re sold out now. What luck. Also, not a complete negative but it runs pretty small. I usually wear a size small but with this jacket there’s no way for me to layer anything under it because the beginning of the arm holes are very tight.

I am an Americana pipedream fan but this is a very disappointing product for how much it costs.

      Good jacket

As I live outside the states it was **** of a gamble buying this jacket, One thing is the price and the second is the size. I actually messured my self a couple of times making sure I would fit in and well I took my chances ordered it and waited a week or two, The whole shipping process was good and didn't cause any problems and the jacket? Well worth every damn penny.
I am around 5'9 - 5'10 so I got the size Small and it fits great and on point
One thing is that the jacket isn't as thick as I thought it would be and I find it hard to believe it keeps you warm in colder places but it is perfect for the places I find my self in and does its job quiet well.

Also I did put it to some use before writing this review and to say the least I am not disappointed and it does seem like it will last a couple of good years if not more. Would definitely recommend you get one whenever and if another batch pops up.

      MADE IN THE USA

Model is 5’ 11”, 165 pounds wearing a size medium.

Introducing Americana Pipedream Apparel's first 100% original garment: The McGrath Bomber Jacket in Blumentarn. This versatile jacket is lovingly crafted here in the United States with a ten ounce cotton canvas exterior for unbridled durability at work, home or play. Lined with lightweight, comfortable and cool-to-the-touch 4.5 ounce French Twill fabric for extreme comfort.

A total of five pockets throughout the jacket leaves you enough space to store a phone, gloves or anything else you may need throughout your day. Two pockets utilize snap-cap flap closure to keep your items secure, while another two located directly behind them make for great easy-access or hand warming pockets. Another pocket on the left interior breast allows for a phone or wallet to be stored securely.

Both the cuffs and hem are made using Wisconsin-produced nylon rib knit. This ensures additional warmth and adds additional comfort. A medium brown corduroy collar backed by canvas for rigidity adds an extra bit of distinction and timeless style.

The final touches include zippers and snaps made by Talon, the first company to take out a patent for a zipper. It's finished in antique brass for a vintage look. In case of snags, drop a dollop of Zipper Ease or other zipper lubricant on there and run the zipper a few times.

      The McGrath Bomber's Origin Story

The McGrath Bomber Jacket is the product of years of development by the Americana Pipedream team. This project began in 2021 with nothing more than one sketchbook drawing of a "work jacket" printed in the rare and obscure East German Blumentarn camouflage pattern. With AP being a new company of only two employees in 2021, neither of whom had any experience in clothing design, this project remained only a pipedream... until now.

Since 2021 we have spent hundreds of hours designing, prototyping, testing and tweaking the jacket’s design. Our goal in embarking on this project was to create the highest quality, most comfortable jacket possible while reviving vintage style and niche camouflage patterns.

      Made In The USA!

We've also decided to manufacture our jacket here in the United States. This decision allows us, and you, to support local American garment manufacturing. Once a proud and thriving sector of the American economy, much of this work has been outsourced to India, Vietnam, Mexico and other places. We hope that our choice to manufacture the McGrath Bomber here in the US will provide support not only to domestic manufacturing, but to the families of those employed in the business of clothing production.

      Why 10 Ounce Cotton Canvas?

This fabric stands as a steadfast companion for those who cherish long-lasting adventure and resilience against nature's elements. Cotton canvas is a versatile material: it can be waxed to repel water, it bravely guards against the sharpest thorns and edges, and its sturdy weave shields you from the fiercest winds. Whether you're navigating through dense woods or braving mountain trails, cotton canvas offers a reliable fortress of comfort and protection.

Ten ounce cotton canvas falls into a middle ground in the realm of jackets. Tough and durable enough to last for decades if properly cared for, but not too heavy for fall and spring weather. Our choice to use ten ounce canvas will ensure that your jacket withstands wearing, tearing and washing.

Why rib knit cuffs and waist?

Rib knit is a stretchy type of fabric often used to add insulating properties to a garment. Rib knit conforms to your body and helps to keep heat in. Not only is this material useful for heat retention, it's also incredibly comfortable and allows you to wear a wristwatch without snags.
